MRM Project Feature: This Too Shall Pass Publishing Project

This Too Shall Pass is first-time author Kaitlyn Scott’s personal story of her journey with chronic illness. In the book, she shares encouragement through the lessons God has taught her on this journey, along with real, raw struggles and tests of her faith. Working with such personal “works of heart” are as rewarding as they are delicate, and our team does our very best to handle both the manuscript and the author with care throughout the entire publishing process. Kaitlyn was a joy to work with and leaned into our guidance and asked questions along the way like a champ!

This Too Shall Pass: Discovering Hope in Seasons of Suffering ranked as the #1 New Release in Religious Faith and Christian Faith for the first two weeks after its release!

About This Recent Project

Book Edits, Cover Design, Formatting, & Typesetting

Kaitlyn came to MRM as a referral from one of our team members, Carey Scott, so it was super special to pair the two of them together for the initial developmental edits. Kaitlyn’s dad did a wonderful job editing the manuscript prior to our review of it, which made it easier for us to polish the final version. Of course, due to the nature of the manuscript, we wanted to be careful to honor her personal story and tone of voice while still refining the words and flow with the reader in mind. After developmental edits were complete, we worked through a quick round of copy edits and a final proofread before passing the manuscript on to our designer.

Kaitlyn was very clear on the look she wanted for the cover design and overall feel of the book, noting for us that the design should be primarily textual, with a larger, boxy font, and on a yellow background. It was important to include visuals of faith and hope, so the yellow background along with the sunrise imagery were perfect for communicating her story and message.

The interior design was fairly simplistic, highlighting verses and quotes that have served as inspiration and encouragement to Kaitlyn throughout her illness. Nelly incorporated the same sunrise illustration from the cover into the chapter headings and section dividers for cohesiveness, and the completed design is clean, welcoming, and inspiring from cover to cover.

As bonuses for each reader, Kaitlyn also included more Scripture references, information about a song she has written, and a closing prayer at the end of the book, as beautiful reminders that none of us walk these challenging paths alone.

Publishing & Optimization

We prepared This Too Shall Pass for IngramSpark and Amazon KDP, in both print and eBook, to allow for opportunities for wider distribution. As part of our publishing agreement under the Market Refined Publishing imprint, we managed the publishing process on both platforms, purchased all necessary ISBNs, and registered the new release with the Library of Congress.

Sara also provided our metadata keyword and category research package to ensure the optimal searchability for Kaitlyn’s book. Additionally, she honed the book’s back cover copy and product description, along with the author’s bio for her Amazon Author Profile, and wrote marketing copy to be repurposed as Kaitlyn sees fit, through ads, website content, or social media marketing.

We are so proud of this book (and its author) and feel so privileged to have been a small part of Kaitlyn’s mission to share it with the world.

What Kaitlyn had to say…

“I LOVED my experience! I so appreciated how quickly Mandy responded back to every question I had. This was my first book so I had a lot of questions and I never felt like an inconvenience or frustration which I so appreciated. Mandy is grace filled and there were many times I thought an edit needed to be made but didn’t know the correct rule and instead of Mandy or Carey saying, ‘You’re wrong and don’t know what you’re doing,’ they both responded in kindness and helped teach me along the way. I appreciate that about Carey. In her edits with comments, I felt like I learned a lot. I love the excellence of their work! I loved being able to have a say in the design work too and being able to go back and forth about changes I wanted to see. I’m so pleased and will use them again!”
