MRM Project Feature: Carey Scott Brand & Website Redesign

MRM Project Feature: Carey Scott Brand & Website Redesign

Carey Scott is a longtime MRM client and, even more than that, a cherished friend of our team. She is a prolific Christian author with more than 54 published titles—devotionals, Bible studies, and faith-based resources that meet readers right in the middle of anxiety, fear, and the everyday hard of life. Carey’s books have long directed readers to her website, and her corner of the internet has been a place where women who find her work can find a little more about her.

When it became clear that her existing website had reached the end of its technical life, Carey trusted us to bring it into a new season, just like the new season she’s in now: less focused on speaking and more settled into the quiet, steady work of writing and connecting with the readers God continues to bring her way.

The result is a beautifully minimal digital home that feels as warm and real as Carey herself. Her new website at careyscott.org gives readers a place to find her, explore her books, and reach out.

About This Recent Project

Carey has spent years writing books that give women permission to breathe, to lay down the weight of perfection and expectation and step into what she describes as wide-open spaces. Her voice and message are deeply rooted in the idea that God lifts us out of the pit of chaos and sets us somewhere we can finally exhale.

That visual informed our decisions throughout the redesign. Our goal wasn’t to build Carey an ambitious content hub, but a simple online home—clean, peaceful, and purposeful—that honors where God has her right now and serves her readers well.

Content and Sitemap Planning

Because Carey has shifted away from active speaking and coaching, her sitemap needed to reflect a simpler, more focused purpose: introduce her, showcase her books, and make it easy for readers to connect.

Mandy worked with Carey to shape the content around that goal. Her home page content was crafted to provide a landing experience, to establish who she is and guide visitors naturally toward her books and her heart. The About page content draws from her author bio and her own words, giving new visitors a genuine sense of who Carey is and what she’s about. And together, we created the necessary verbiage to prompt site visitors to engage with the new Books page. With 54 published titles across multiple categories, we worked through how to present her work in a way that was user-friendly, cost-effective, and still genuinely useful to readers. We landed on a sortable gallery featuring 3D covers of her best-known titles, organized by category— devotionals, anxiety, prayer, and general faith—so readers can easily find what speaks to where they are.

Brand Design

For this project, the “brand design” phase was intentionally abbreviated. Carey didn’t need a full identity kit; she needed a cohesive style direction to anchor the new site design. Carol took the lead on developing a moodboard, style guide, and color palette that would guide the rest of the build.

Carey came in with a clear aesthetic instinct. She wanted something that felt vintage, reminiscent of wide open spaces, and beautifully imperfect. She gravitated toward deep, rich fall tones—burnt orange, forest green, sienna, and cranberry. Carol developed a palette that incorporated both Carey’s original colors and shades of taupe, mustard, navy, and cream to beautifully capture the warmth and depth Carey described, without ever feeling heavy or dark.

For the name mark and typography, the goal was a vintage-leaning serif or cursive font that felt slightly imperfect and like something with a little character and life to it. After testing a few font pairings, we settled on a combination of The Seasons for headings, Poppins for body text, and Meow Script as a creative accent throughout the site.

Website Design and Development

With Carol’s style guide in hand, Mandy built out the full site design and development, incorporating Carey’s photos, her words, and the visual direction we’d established together.

One noteworthy piece of this project was Carey’s photography. For her new headshots and site imagery, Carey worked with our associate designer Karen Lewis of Karen Lewis Creative, who offers an AI Virtual Photoshoot as a modern, accessible alternative to a traditional branding shoot. We love referring our clients to Karen for this service because the results are always professional-quality, on-brand imagery without the cost or logistics of a studio session. The gallery of photos felt completely authentic to Carey: outdoorsy, relaxed, and full of personality. The homepage hero image with Carey in a wide-brimmed hat against an open, natural backdrop perfectly anchors the wide-open-spaces feeling she’d described from the very beginning of our conversation.

The new site was built on WordPress using the Kadence theme framework, with a custom child theme developed specifically for this project. Every page was designed with intentionality, carrying the warm color palette throughout each section, button, and heading. The cursive font appears in just the right places, adding hints of whimsy and visual appeal throughout.

The new home and About pages predominantly featured photos of Carey paired with the welcome and introduction copy we polished together. The Books page came together as the centerpiece of the site, exactly as we’d planned. Highlighted at the top of the page are Carey’s featured books, each one linking to a product page that includes their companion resources. Below, the sortable gallery allows readers to browse by category, and each book links directly to Amazon for purchase. Strategically placed calls to action prompt visitors to learn about Carey’s vast library of books and to follow her on Amazon for new releases.

We created a simple contact form, linked in the website footer with a warm “send me a note” invitation that keeps the door open for meaningful connection without creating unrealistic expectations on either side.

Final launch steps included basic SEO configuration, Google Analytics and Search Console integration, submission of the new sitemap, updates to her Privacy Policy and cookie notice, and the addition of an accessibility widget to ensure the site is welcoming and functional for all visitors.

We are honored to have been trusted with this season of Carey’s story. Her ministry is steady and real, and we hope her new website reflects all of that—a wide-open space where readers can land, breathe, and find exactly what they came looking for.

What Carey had to say…

“You guys do such great work! You are brilliant, and I appreciate you so much! This is a breath of fresh air for me, and I love it.”
