Ryan Donald is an avid dog lover and business man who knows that good days usually involve a little humor and a lot of love from our pets! Letters to Dogs chronicles all the things people really want to tell their dogs, and as you read through each letter, we guarantee you’ll recognize that dog!
This recent project brought laughter and light-heartedness to our workspace as we were reminded of the playful and, at times, exasperating personalities of our own pets! Ryan was so much fun to work with and we were thrilled to help him publish his first book!
About This Recent Project
Book Edits, Cover Design, Formatting, & Typesetting
Ryan worked with Carey for the developmental editing portion of this project, fine-tuning the flow of each letter and ensuring the content was polished and concise! For copy and line edits, Randi paid close attention to sentence structure and grammar, readying the manuscript for the designer.
For the cover design, Ryan wanted a clean, simple cover with a nod to his own Great Dane on the cover and had already selected a few typewriter and handwritten fonts for us to choose from. Following Ryan’s lead, Nelly gave the cover a simple look that allowed the illustration to be the focus, and it was exactly what Ryan had envisioned.
The cartoon-like drawings carried over seamlessly to the interior pages as Nelly adapted a variety of illustrations to create the scenes that played out throughout the book; from exciting energy, to gentle moments, to complete chaos, she brought the letters to life with a new dog character on each page. The design elements from the cover and interior art were also incorporated into the website and digital assets package for this project, keeping the fun in all aspects of our work.
Publishing & Optimization
Letters to Dogs was formatted for both IngramSpark and Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, in print and ebook versions, to ensure the opportunities for distribution were maximized. As a result, Ryan was able to connect with his local Barnes & Noble as well as local veterinarian offices and businesses for fantastic bulk order and event opportunities.
The product description, author bio, and back cover copy were provided by Sara, who also ensured the metadata keywords and category research were on target for this unique book. She also created a detailed marketing strategy for Ryan to utilize as he promotes Letters to Dogs and continues to build on the online and in-person connections.
Website Design, Sales Page, & Digital Assets Package
Carol’s work on the website provided a bright and bold online space highlighting the simplicity of the book cover and drawing you in to learn more about this humorous book and its witty author.
The digital assets package for this project included social media graphics and platform cover images, along with a suggested content calendar to organize graphics, caption prompts, and a list of relevant hashtags. The graphics are bold and captivating—featuring the humor of each story and while incorporating the familiar design elements from the book and website.
Every part of this project makes us smile, and we know it will do the same for you!
What Ryan had to say…
